陶文釗指出，習近平在通電話時所講內容，其實是過去 37 年來中美關係發展的一個基本經驗，即不管國際局勢如何變化，不管中美兩國國內形勢怎樣變化，中美兩國都是互有需要，雙方共同利益大於分歧，合作是中美關係主流。

陶文釗認為，川普在通電話時亦回應指，中國是偉大和重要的國家，美中兩國可以實現互利共贏，願加強美中兩國合作，這些傳達出來的信息都是正面的、積極的。

其次，習近平在通電話中表明中國政府願意跟美國新政府合作，繼續推進合作共贏的中美關係。前兩天，習近平在發給川普的賀電中，雖然沒有提「新型大國關係」這個詞，但提出要秉持不衝突、不對抗、相互尊重、合作共贏的原則，而這些原則實際上正是新型大國關係的實質性內容。

香港《文匯報》報導，川普在競選中曾批評中國「偷走」美國的就業崗位，但陶文釗認為，這顯然不是川普對華政策的全部。對於川普未來的對華政策，陶文釗表示，川普並有系統地闡述過對華政策和中美關係。而且，從來都沒有一個候選人，在當選後會把競選時所有的話都變成政策。另外，現在川普仍正在組閣。所以，現在很難預測其對華政策到底如何。
